West Bengal, India
The project scope included construction of a viaduct, RE (Reinforced Earth) walls, and a 63 m bow string girder ROB over railway tracks at Bishnupur, West Bengal. The bow string girder weighing approximately 700 MT was fabricated adjacent to the tracks and slid into its final position over the railway lines during a scheduled traffic block. This method of sliding the girder over tracks avoids prolonged disruption to rail traffic and allows the heavy superstructure to be assembled safely at ground level before being moved into place.
The viaduct approach spans and RE walls were constructed first to bring the road alignment up to the required grade. The bow string girder was then assembled on temporary staging alongside the tracks and slid longitudinally over PTFE sheets to its final bearings on the piers.
