Project Overview

Jangtulam Bridge is one of the three bridges on the Damchu Chukha realignment of Thimpu Phuentsholing Highway. Bridge is located over deep gorge consisting of single span of 75m steel superstructure. Owing to new alignment, only one side of the bridge was accessible requiring construction of trolley system for men and tool tackles.

Construction

As temporary staging was not possible due to presence of deep gorge, each member of the bridge was carried on a sling and positioned at its final place all the while hanging from the temporary ropes anchored at bridge ends. All members of the bridge were similarly positioned in their final place before connections were bolted.

Construction crew faced tough challenging conditions owing to extreme cold and windy conditions prevalent at site throughout the year. This beautiful bridge is a testimony to hard work and dedication of the workers who actually built it with their hands.
