Project Overview

The Kali Bridge project is a continuous sequence of six network arch bridges on National Highway 66 over the Kali River at Karwar in Karnataka. The span arrangement is 100 + 122 × 4 + 100 metres — six arches in line, totalling 688 metres of network arch deck.

The work was awarded by IRB Infrastructure Developers as part of the NH-66 expansion programme along the Konkan coast.

Why six arches in a row

The Kali River at Karwar is wide, tidal and navigable. Six arches keep span lengths consistent, give clean clearance over the navigable channel, and produce a deck profile that reads as a single architectural composition rather than a series of unrelated spans. We are not aware of another network arch sequence of this length and uniformity on the Indian highway network.
