Near Gwaldam, Uttarakhand
Ming Gadhera Bridge is a two-span steel truss bridge located near Gwaldam in the hills of Uttarakhand. The span arrangement is 45 + 75 m, with the 75 m main span carrying the bridge over the deeper part of the Ming Gadhera and a 45 m approach span on the other side. A single pier between the two spans supports the superstructure, with abutments at either end.
The pier between the two spans is founded on a well sunk through the river bed to competent strata. Both abutments rest on open foundation, the rock conditions at each bank being suitable for shallow founding.
Both spans use a steel truss superstructure, fabricated in sections and erected at site. Steel truss was the practical choice for the 75 m main span given the terrain and the limitations on temporary staging in the gorge.
