Toong, Sikkim
Toong Bridge is located on way to North Sikkim spanning mighty Teesta. The bridge consists of two piers on well foundations and abutments on open foundation. Span configuration of the bridge has 2 spans of 20m and a central span of 90m. 90m central span eliminates the need to interact with turbulent and ice cold water of Teesta. Superstructure is a balanced cantilever type constructed using form travelers.
Construction of bridge had faced two natural calamities of 2011 earthquake and 2012 flashfloods. Both the events delayed the construction timeline owing to restricted access to the site on account of natural calamities.
Bridge serves as an important landmark and popular spot for tourists on way to North Sikkim district.
