Takti, Phuentsholing–Thimpu Highway, Bhutan
Takti Bridge is a 100 m single-span cantilever bridge located on the highway connecting Phuentsholing to Thimpu, overlooking the Takti waterfalls. The crossing forms part of an important corridor between the two cities and the bridge sits in the steep terrain typical of this stretch of the route.
The terrain at the site is steep, and the bridge alignment required 25 m tall abutments to bring the deck up to highway grade. Both abutments rest on hard rock as open foundation, taking advantage of the competent strata at each bank.
The 100 m span was constructed using the cantilever method, with two form travellers operating simultaneously from each end. The cantilever arms advanced segment by segment until they were stitched together at mid-span.
